CONCEPT: JUNGLE

-Noun
1. A thick tropical forest with many large plants growing very close together.
2. A situation in which it is difficult to become successful or get what you want, especially because a lot of people are competing with each other: the media jungle.
3. Something that is very untidy, complicated, or confusing: a jungle of freways and highways.
4. A type of very fast dance music.

We shall continue to work tomorrow with textures and abstractions, so I would like you to bring along ink, crayons, pastel, pencils… And please, brushes and paper! With the jungle concept I want you to create a digital collage scanning and using the textures created with different media. I also want you to work with words and different typographies., combining both. If you have doubts about how to scan your work digitally, please let me know. You will not have class next week with me so have your doubts and questions ready. As examples of projects done with mixed media I am posting some images of Christo and Jeanne-Claude´s work. Note how they use illustration when presenting their projects and create a body of work that transcends the actual accomplishment of their idea.

CONCEPT: ABSTRACTION

Continuing with our plastic experimentation, I want you to create textures with the new materials we used in class. Work with the materials in an abstract way, don’t think about drawings. Experiment with water: what happens when you mix your media with a lot of water, and the contrary, when you use them hardly without. Spread colors, mix them, and manipulate them. Use different papers, big papers, and different brushes, they make a difference.

With these experimental sheets, create 2 abstract collages. Use as inspiration the work of the artists I am posting.
